Important Updates for Standard 8 (Standard 8)

February 19, 2015

Review a list of important updates for Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8).

This topic contains information about important Windows updates that Microsoft recommends you apply to your Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) devices.

Servicing Stack Updates

Updates to the Servicing Stack of Standard 8 are provided as cumulative updates and you should always use the latest Servicing Stack update available. If you have multiple servicing Stack Updates in your update folder and then use using Image Builder Wizard (IBW) to add applicable updates, you may encounter a race condition that will cause one or more updates to be lost when your Standard 8 device is rebooted. This condition does not occur if you apply Servicing Stack updates online or to an online device.

The recommended workarounds for this issue are:

  • Ensure the latest Servicing Stack update is last update in the configuration file you will use to deploy your Standard 8 image to your device.
  • Do not include any Servicing Stack updates in your configuration file, then install the latest Servicing Stack update on the device after you finish image deployment.
