Review catalogs, catalog search paths, and catalog folders in Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8).
A catalog is a set of folders that are used to customize Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) through a configuration file. When you add items to your configuration file in Image Configuration Editor (ICE), the path of the item is included in your configuration file. During installation, Image Builder uses this path to install the additional applications and device drivers. For example, if you connect to a catalog on a network, the configuration file refers to that network path.
Standard 8 has two catalogs: one for developing images to be deployed to devices that have a 32-bit architecture, one for developing images to be deployed to devices that have a 64-bit architecture. The default installation location for Standard 8 catalogs C:\Windows Embedded Catalog.
Search Paths
Image Builder Wizard (IBW) must be able to locate the modules in your catalog or configuration set. Typically, IBW finds your catalog share by using a set of default search paths. However, in some instances, you may want to manually set the search paths.
IBW searches for modules in one of the following folders in the same directory as your configuration file:
- The directory that is specified as part of the command-line entry to run IBW.
- The path that is specified in your configuration file as the Source Location setting of the catalog.
- A catalog folder in the same directory as your configuration file.
- A catalog folder in the same directory as
Setup.exe.
Catalog Folder
You use the Modules folder for Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) software updates. Module types include service packs, security updates, language packs, and other modules that Microsoft uses. You must use either ICE or Catalog Manager (Catman.exe) to import modules into a catalog. After the module is imported and appears in the Catalog pane in ICE, you can add the module to your configuration file.
