Deploy from a Configuration Set (Standard 8)

7/8/2014

Learn how to deploy your Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) image using a configuration set.

If you build only a few devices, and it is not cost effective to build and manage images of the operating system, use a configuration set installation method. It requires less time to set up any required infrastructure, but more time to build each computer.

To deploy from a configuration set

  1. Use Image Configuration Editor (ICE) to create a configuration set on a network share. For more information, see Create a Configuration Set from a Configuration File.

  2. Assemble the hardware for your device.

  3. Start your device by using Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) 4.0.

    Note

The Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) setup process performs several verifications, which rely on your device’s date and time settings. For optimal performance, ensure that your device is set to the correct date and time.

  4. Connect to the network and install Standard 8 from the configuration set.

  5. To test or customize Standard 8, run the sysprep /audit command on your device, and then make your customizations in audit mode. For more information, see auditSystem Configuration Pass.

  6. Run the sysprep /oobe /shutdown command on your device, and then deliver the device to the customer.
