Requirements for a Development Computer (Standard 8)

Review the requirements for a Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) development computer.

A development computer must meet or exceed the following hardware and software requirements to run the Windows Embedded 8 Standard Toolkit (Standard 8 Toolkit). The development computer is the computer where you install Standard 8 Toolkit.

Hardware Requirements

The development computer must meet or exceed the following hardware requirements:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor.
  • 1 GB of operating system memory (32-bit system) or 2 GB of operating system memory (64-bit system)
  • 11 GB of free hard drive space for complete installation
  • One or more of the following media devices:
    • DVD-ROM drive
    • USB 2.0 port

Software Requirements

The development computer must meet or exceed the following software requirements:

  • It must be running one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 7
    • Windows 7 Service Pack 1
    • Windows 8
  • It must have the following software installed:
    • .NET Framework 4.0 or higher
      You can download and install .NET Framework 4.0 from this Microsoft website.
    • Microsoft Core XML Services 6.0 (MSXML 6.0) or higher
      You can download and install MSXML 6.0 from this Microsoft website.
  • It must have network access if you plan to use a catalog stored on the local network or save your configuration file or configuration set to the network.
