Web elements and the Web Element Manager service form a container-based organization of Web user interface (UI) information. A Web element is a collection of properties needed to define a component of the Web UI. Web elements were created to provide a UI-oriented connection to dynamic system information and, in some cases, to allow extensions of the Web UI without editing Active Server Page (ASP) files.

Many of the Web UI pages are built using Web elements. For example, the major and minor navigation bar items are defined as Web elements; therefore, adding an additional major or minor tab to the system requires defining a new Web element. Similarly, each link on the navigation pages are individual Web elements, so adding or removing task links involves adding or removing Web elements. The sections below describe the details of defining Web elements and how they can be used.

Note

  • You must restart the Web Element Manager service before you can view any changes. At a command prompt, use the command net stop elementmgr to stop the Web Element Manager service, and then use the command net start elementmgr to restart it.
