Using the Network Administration Utility

Windows CE includes a Web-based sample network configuration utility , Natadmin.dll, that can be accessed on the device Web server from the private network. This utility uses a Web server to allow the remote configuration of a gateway. The Web-based network configuration utility is located in %_WINCEROOT%\Public\Servers\Sdk\Samples\Natadmin. Authentication may be required to load the administration utility program. This depends on the Web server configuration. For more information, see ICS Web-based Configuration Utility.

To launch the network administration Web page, use your Internet browser and go to http://<Gateway IP Address>/networkadmin.

If you have a proxy server on the public side of the gateway you will not have any problems connecting to external Web sites, but you may have a problem connecting to the gateway to launch the network administration Web page. To locate the gateway, you must turn off the proxy settings on the client while you browse to the gateway. When you turn off the proxy settings, you will not be able to browse to the external Web sites.

Another way around the proxy server is to bypass the proxy server for addresses in the appropriate range that is set for the client. This allows you to browse the external Web sites and browse the gateway at the same time.

To bypass the proxy for specific address range

  1. In Internet Explorer, from the Tools menu of, choose Internet Options.

  2. Choose the Connections tab, and then choose the LAN Settings button.

  3. Verify that the Automatically detect settings check box is cleared.

  4. Select the Use a proxy sever for your LAN check box.

  5. In the Address box, type the proxy server address.

  6. In the Port box, type 80.

  7. Select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box.

  8. Choose Advanced.

  9. In the Exceptions box, type the gateway IP address.

If you used the procedure in Configuring the Gateway Registry topic, the gateway IP address is 192.168.0.1.

  10. To close the Proxy Settings dialog box, choose OK.

  11. To close the Local Area Network (LAN)Settings dialog box, choose OK.

  12. To close the Internet Options dialog box, choose OK.
