CeLog Data Viewing (Windows CE 5.0)

You have two options for viewing data collected by CeLog event tracking, Remote Kernel Tracker and the Readlog Viewing Tool.

In general, it is useful to use the tools together: use Remote Kernel Tracker first, to get a clear overview of system activity; then, if you need further details, or if you need to calculate data such as thread run-times, follow up using Readlog. Each tool offers advantages and disadvantages.

Remote Kernel Tracker Readlog
Remote Kernel Tracker provides a graphical depiction of the events logged by CeLog. Good for high-level visualization.

Remote Kernel Tracker offers multiple modes:

  • Data collection mode that reads CeLog data dynamically
  • Limited Buffer mode that reads from a fixed buffer
  • File mode that reads from a previously collected log

 Readlog converts the CeLog output file into text. Useful for investigating the details of activity over a small, targeted period of time.
  • Presents a text representation
  • Reads a previously collected log
  • Can collect boot events
  • Allows user control of detail reported in output, including event IDs, thread names, and timestamps
  • Filters output based on event IDs
