Description

Defines a slow connection for purposes of applying and updating Group Policy.

If a policy update travels from the domain controller to the computer at a rate slower than is specified in the value of this entry, the system defines the connection as slow.

This entry stores the setting of the Connection speed (Kbps) box in the Group Policy slow link detection Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0x1F4.

If the value of this entry is 0x0, all connections are considered to be fast.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Group Policy slow link detection Group Policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy). In the Connection speed box, type a decimal number between 0 and 4,294,967,200 (0xFFFFFFA0), indicating a transfer rate in kilobits per second. Any connection slower than this rate is defined as slow. If you type 0, all connections are defined as fast.

Note Image Note

The system's response to a slow policy connection is determined by the program implementing the policy. Also, the policy processing entries in the HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Group Policy\ Class-ID subkeys let you override the programs' specified responses to slow connections.

This entry appears in both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The value of this entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE defines a slow link for policies in the Computer Configuration folder. The value of this entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER defines a slow link for policies in the User Configuration folder.
