Command-Line Tools Technical Reference

The following command-line tools are commonly used in the Windows® OEM Preinstallation Kit (Windows OPK) and the Windows Automated Installation Kit (Windows AIK). Some of these tools are available with the Windows OPK or Windows AIK; other tools are available as part of the Windows operating system.

Commonly used command-line tools such as Diskpart, BCDEdit, and Server Manager tools are documented in the Windows online command-line reference.

BCDboot Command-Line Options	Used for initializing the boot configuration data (BCD) store and copying boot environment files to the system partition during image deployment.
Bootsect Command-Line Options	Updates the master boot code for hard disk partitions to switch between BOOTMGR and NTLDR.
Drvload Command-Line Options	Adds third-party drivers to Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE).
Expand Command-Line Options	Expands one or more cabinet (.cab) files.
Intlcfg Command-Line Options	Configures international settings on Windows Vista® and Windows Server® 2008 installations.
Lpksetup Command-Line Options	Installs language packs and configures international settings.
Oscdimg Command-Line Options	Creates an image (.iso) file of a customized 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows PE.
Tzutil	Manages available time zones.
Winpeshl.ini Files	Controls whether a customized shell is loaded in Windows PE instead of the default Command Prompt window.
Wpeinit Command-Line Options	Initializes Windows PE each time it boots. Specifically, Wpeinit.exe installs Plug and Play devices, processes Unattend.xml settings, and loads network resources.
Wpeutil Command-Line Options	Initializes Windows PE each time it boots.
