Save a Job or a Task to a Template
Applies To: Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003
Saving a job or a task to a template means saving the job or task specifications to a user-named XML file. This allows you to save a job that is not fully created for later completion or to preserve a job it as a template for other jobs. When you have a fully populated template (one that contains all the desired job specifications), you can submit the job to the queue from the template.
Saving as a template always means saving a job; there is no task template separate from a job template.
Saving a job to a template is usually performed as a last step in job creation.
To save a job as a template
Create the job as described (See Create a Job).
Click Save as Template… on any Job Properties tab. This will save the specifications on all tabs.
Enter a name for the template file when prompted.
Note
While the template file name and the job name can be the same, they are separate entities. This allows you to assign a specific name to a job and a generic name to the template.
You can also save any job that is in the queue to a template, regardless of its status.
To save a job from the job queue
Double-click the job in the Job Manager job queue.
Click Save as Template… on the Job Properties sheet.
Enter a name for the template file when prompted.
Note
While the template file name and the job name can be the same, they are separate entities. This allows you to assign a specific name to a job and a generic name to the template.
