Information specific to Windows Essential Business Server
During the Windows EBS installation, in some scenarios, the DNS Server service is installed and configured on the Management Server and the Messaging Server.
During the Windows EBS installation, you selected a new or an existing Active Directory domain for Windows EBS to join. If you selected a new domain, the DNS Server services were installed on the Management Server and the Messaging Server. The Management Server and the Messaging Server were configured to act as primary servers for the new domain, and the zone type was configured to be integrated with AD DS.
If you joined an existing domain, the Installation Wizard detected whether the DNS zone for this domain was already integrated with AD DS or was in a stand-alone scenario (the DNS zone for the Active Directory domain that you joined is not integrated with AD DS).
If the zone was already integrated with AD DS, the DNS Server services were installed on the Management Server and the Messaging Server. The Management Server and the Messaging Server were configured to act as servers for the domain, and the zone type was configured to be integrated with AD DS. Data for the zone replicated to the Management Server and the Messaging Server through the automatic replication that is provided by AD DS.
If you were in a stand-alone scenario, the DNS Server services on the Management Server and Messaging Server were neither installed nor configured.
For more information about the stand-alone scenario, see Information about DNS earlier in this document.
