Installing Service Packs for HPC Pack 2008 R2
Updated: August 2011
Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008 R2
This topic lists the general steps to upgrade HPC Pack 2008 R2 with the latest service pack on the nodes in a Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 cluster.

Compute nodes and WCF broker nodes
If you deployed compute nodes (or WCF broker nodes) from bare metal, you can redeploy them by using a method such as assigning a node template that reimages the node and automatically installs HPC Pack 2008 R2 with SP2.
To manually install the latest service pack on the compute nodes (or WCF broker nodes) in the cluster, use the steps in the following table.
Step | Description |
---|---|
If you have not yet installed HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP1, install it first. |
|
Upgrade HPC Pack 2008 R2 with SP1 to SP2. |
Additional considerations
- You are not required to upgrade workstation nodes on which HPC Pack 2008 R2 (RTM) is installed. However, user activity detection settings that are enabled in the service packs for HPC Pack 2008 R2 are ignored without notification on these workstations. For more information, see Adding Workstation Nodes in Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 Step-by-Step Guide.
