Seize the ADAM schema master role

To seize the schema master role
Open an ADAM tools command prompt.
At the command prompt, type:
dsmgmt
At the dsmgmt: command prompt, type:
roles
At the fsmo maintenance: command prompt, type:
connections
At the server connections: command prompt, type:
connect to server computername:portnumber
where computername:portnumber is the computer name and communications port number of the ADAM instance that you want to use as the new schema master.
At the server connections: command prompt, type:
quit
At the fsmo maintenance: command prompt, type:
seize schema master
Caution
- Do not seize the schema master role if you can transfer it instead. Seizing the schema master role is a drastic step that should be considered only if the current operations master will never be available again. For more information about transferring operations master roles, see Related Topics.

To open an ADAM tools command prompt, click Start, point to All Programs, point to ADAM, and then click ADAM Tools Command Prompt.
