Setting NTFS Permissions for Directories or Files
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1
You can control access to your Web site's directories and files by setting NTFS access permissions. You can use NTFS permissions to define the level of access that you want to grant to specific users, and groups of users. The appropriate configuration of file and directory permissions is crucial for preventing unauthorized access to your resources.
The procedures in this section explain how to secure Web sites using IIS Manager, which allows setting permissions on Web sites, directories, and virtual directories. Files inherit permissions from directories. To set permissions on individual files, use a programmatic solution, such as Adsutil.vbs IIS Administration Utility.
