To get user settings from the machine account (loopback processing)

  1. Open Group Policy Management.

  2. In the console tree, double-click the forest containing the domain or organizational unit which contains the computer accounts.

  3. Double-click the domain or organization unit.

  4. Right-click a Group Policy object (GPO) that is linked to the domain or organizational unit, and then click Edit. This opens Group Policy Object Editor. If there is no existing GPO, use the Create and Link a GPO Here option.

  5. In the results pane of the Group Policy Object Editor, double-click User Group Policy loopback processing mode.

    Where?

    • GPO name

    • Computer Configuration

    • Administrative Templates

    • System

    • Group Policy

    • User Group Policy loopback processing mode

  6. Click Enabled, and then in the Mode box, select either Merge or Replace. Click OK.

Notes

  • You must have Edit permissions on the GPO to perform this procedure.

  • The Loopback option applies to all GPOs applied to a given computer. It cannot be specified on a per GPO basis.
