Policy setting is not supported

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

If you are trying to apply a policy setting to a computer running an earlier operating system or service pack, the policy setting may not apply.

Cause

Many Group Policy settings were introduced for Windows XP, Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Windows Server 2003 that are not supported by earlier operating systems. If a setting is not supported, Group Policy will set the registry key to the specified value, but it is effectively ignored because no application or component will read that registry key. Computers running Windows operating systems that are earlier than Windows 2000 do not support Group Policy.

Solution

Verify that the setting is supported by the client’s operating system. The Group Policy Object Editor displays the operating systems where each policy setting is supported. For more information about policy settings, see the Group Policy Settings Reference for .adm files and Security Settings included with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 on the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=15165).
