Set the runaway recall limit

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To set the runaway recall limit

  1. Open Remote Storage.

  2. In the console tree, right-click Remote Storage, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Limits tab, change the value in Maximum number of successive recalls by clicking the UP or DOWN ARROWS.

  4. To exclude all users with administrative credentials from this limit, select the Limit does not apply to members of the Administrators group check box.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

  • To open Remote Storage, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Remote Storage.

  • The runaway recall limit prohibits a user, or an application, from recalling files from remote storage more than the specified number of times in succession with less than 10 seconds between each recall. Virus checking, data backup, indexing, and search applications typically read all files on your computer and can cause excessive file recalls to occur otherwise.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
