Notes
To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.
To start Backup, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup.
This procedure creates an on-disk catalog. It does not create an on-media catalog.
If you are creating a catalog of a backup set that is saved on a tape, do one of the following before you perform this procedure:
If you have all of the tapes in the backup set and the tapes are not damaged or corrupted, click the Tools menu, click Options, click the General tab, and then make sure the Use the catalogs on the media to speed up building restore catalogs on disk check box is checked.
If you are missing a tape in the backup set or a tape is damaged or corrupted, click the Tools menu, click Options, click the General tab, and then make sure the Use the catalogs on the media to speed up building restore catalogs on disk check box is cleared. This will ensure that the catalog is complete and accurate; however, it might take a long time to create the catalog.
