Change the Directory Cache Memory Setting

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Server for NFS maintains a cache of directory information that it can search instead of directories on the physical disk. By default, this cache is configured to use 128 kilobytes (KB) of memory per directory that Server for NFS caches. However, you can reduce the amount of memory that the directory cache uses. You can do this by configuring the folder cache size using the command prompt.

Changing the directory cache memory setting

The following procedure describes how to adjust the amount of memory the directory cache uses.

To configure the folder cache size using the command prompt

  1. Open the command prompt with elevated privileges.

    1. Click the Start button, and click All Programs.

    2. Click Accessories.

    3. Right-click the command prompt, and click Run as administrator.

  2. Type the following:

    **nfsadmin server [\\remoteMachineName] config dircache=**size

    remoteMachineName
