Log Incoming or Outgoing Fax Activity

A fax activity log provides you with detailed information about incoming and outgoing fax traffic. It can help you track user's fax activity, track performance, and identify problems and bottlenecks. The activity log has two text files, InboxLOG.txt and OutboxLOG.txt, located in <systemdrive>\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\ActivityLog.

To enable activity logging for a fax server

  1. Open Fax Service Manager.

  2. In the left pane, right-click Fax, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Activity Logging tab, select the Log incoming fax activity check box to start logging incoming faxes and the Log outgoing fax activity check box to start logging outgoing faxes.

Additional considerations

To configure fax components, you must be a member of the Administrators group or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.
