A network adapter is the network hardware that is responsible for sending and receiving data to the wire. The network adapter might not function correctly if the network adapter hardware that the driver is looking for has been removed from the computer, or if it is incorrectly configured or obsolete.

Network Adapter Driver Not Supported

Obsolete drivers are not supported in the versions of the Windows operating systems released after Windows 2000.

Network Adapter Failure

A network adapter failure can occur when there is a problem with the network adapter hardware or the network adapter driver software. Either of these conditions can cause resource or memory conflicts.

Network Adapter Hardware Failure

The Windows operating system might not find a network adapter for which drivers have been installed and enabled if the network adapter has experienced a hardware failure.

Network Adapter Interrupt Failure

Interrupt failures can occur when:

  • The interrupt is already in use by another device in the computer, resulting in a resource conflict
  • The network adapter failed and therefore cannot detect the interrupt

 

Network Adapter Not Found

The Windows operating system might not find a network adapter for which drivers have been installed and enabled if:

  • Information provided to the driver about the network adapter is incorrect
  • The network adapter is not physically present
  • The network adapter has experienced a hardware failure
