IIS Extension | Description |
---|---|
FTP Publishing Service |
The FTP Publishing Service for IIS 7 allows Web content creators to publish content more securely to IIS 7 Web servers with new features like SSL-based authentication and data transfer. For more information, see Administering FTP 7.5. |
Administration Pack |
The IIS 7 Administration Pack adds to the management features in IIS 7 to include administration UI support for ASP.NET authorization, custom errors, FastCGI configuration, Request Filtering, and more. For more information, see Administration Pack User Interface (UI) Help. |
Application Request Routing |
Microsoft Application Request Routing (ARR) for IIS 7 is a proxy-based routing module that forwards HTTP requests to content servers based on HTTP headers, server variables, and load balance algorithms. For more information, see Application Request Routing User Interface (UI) Help. |
Database Manager |
IIS Database Manager allows easy management of local and remote databases from within IIS Manager. IIS Database Manager also automatically discovers databases based on the Web server or application configuration and provides the ability to connect to any database on the network. For more information, see IIS Database Manager User Interface (UI) Help. |
Media Services |
IIS Media Services extensions integrate a media delivery platform with IIS. A Web server with IIS Media Services installed provides a unified infrastructure for managing and administering delivery of rich media and other Web content. Combining media delivery and Web content delivery on a common platform saves the cost of managing two separate server infrastructures to deliver a single Web site. For more information, see IIS Media Services. |
Transform Manager |
IIS Transform Manager is a media-transform engine that enables on-demand media files to be converted in batches. One example of a media transform is transcoding Windows Media-formatted or MP4-formatted files into on-demand Smooth Streaming presentations that can be delivered to Silverlight clients with the Smooth Streaming extension in IIS Media Services. Another example is repackaging on-demand Smooth Streaming presentation files to the MPEG-2 Transport Stream (MPEG-2 TS) container format, which the Smooth Streaming extension can deliver to Apple mobile digital devices. For more information, see IIS Transform Manager. |
URL Rewrite Module |
The URL Rewrite module provides a rule-based rewriting mechanism for changing request URLs before they are processed by the Web server. The module can be used to express URL rewriting logic that can use regular expressions or wildcards, and to make rewriting decisions based on HTTP headers and server variables. For more information, see IIS URL Rewrite Module. |
WebDAV |
The WebDAV Extension for IIS 7 enables Web authors to publish content more securely to IIS 7 Web servers, and allows Web administrators and hosters to manage WebDAV settings using IIS 7 management and configuration tools. For more information, see WebDAV. |
Web Deployment Tool |
The Web Deployment Tool simplifies the migration, management, and deployment of IIS Web servers, applications, and sites. It enables administrators and delegated users to synchronize IIS 6.0 and IIS 7 servers, to migrate an IIS 6.0 server to IIS 7, and to deploy Web applications to an IIS 7 server. For more information, see Web Deployment Tool. |
