Turning the TPM on or off

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Normally, the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is turned on as part of the TPM initialization process. You do not normally need to turn the TPM on or off. However, you may do so using the TPM Management console.

Turn the TPM on

If the TPM has never been used, or if you wish to use the TPM again after you have turned it off, you should turn the TPM on.

This is normally done as part of the TPM initialization process.

Turn the TPM off

If you want to stop using the services provided by the TPM, you can use the TPM Management console to turn off the TPM.

You can also turn off the TPM to simulate or test the Windows BitLockerâ„¢ Drive Encryption recovery process.
