RRAS DHCP Relay Agent (IPBOOTP)

Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2

The DHCP Relay Agent component is a Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) relay agent that relays Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) messages between DHCP clients and DHCP servers on different IP networks. The DHCP Relay Agent is compliant with RFC 1542, "Clarifications and Extensions for the Bootstrap Protocol." For each IP network segment that contains DHCP clients, either a DHCP server or a computer acting as a DHCP Relay Agent is required.

Aspects

The following is a list of all aspects that are part of this managed entity:

Name Description

RRAS DHCP Relay Agent Audits

The Routing and Remote Access service has determined that DHCP Relay Agent audits generated an audit entry when a system event was executed successfully. These events confirm successful DHCP Relay Agent operations.

RRAS DHCP Relay Agent Enabling

The DHCP Relay Agent is a Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) relay agent that relays Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) messages between DHCP clients and DHCP servers on different IP networks. For each IP network segment that contains DHCP clients, either a DHCP server or a computer acting as a DHCP Relay Agent must be enabled.

RRAS DHCP Relay Agent Packet Discarding

The DHCP Relay Agent is a Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) relay agent that relays Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) messages between DHCP clients and DHCP servers on different IP networks. For each IP network segment that contains DHCP clients, either a DHCP server or a computer acting as a DHCP Relay Agent is required.

If the DHCP Relay Agent (IPBOOTP) is discarding packets, DHCP configuration with peer clients and servers might fail.

RRAS DHCP Relay Agent Protocol Initialization

The DHCP Relay Agent is a Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) relay agent that relays Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) messages between DHCP clients and DHCP servers on different IP networks. For each IP network segment that contains DHCP clients, either a DHCP server or a computer acting as a DHCP Relay Agent is required.

After the DHCP Relay Agent (IPBOOTP) is initialized, the DHCP Relay Agent can relay DHCP/BOOTP requests and responses from different networks.

RRAS DHCP Relay Agent Request and Response Operations

The DHCP Relay Agent is a Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) relay agent that relays Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) messages between DHCP clients and DHCP servers on different IP networks. The DHCP Relay Agent relays DHCP/BOOTP requests and responses from different networks.

RRAS DHCP Relay Agent Socket Operation

The DHCP Relay Agent is a Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) relay agent that relays Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) messages between DHCP clients and DHCP servers on different IP networks. For each IP network segment that contains DHCP clients, either a DHCP server or a computer acting as a DHCP Relay Agent is required.

Socket operation for DHCP Relay Agent (IPBOOTP) involves configuration of the DHCP Relay Agent to receive packets from the neighboring DHCP Relay Agent.
