Folder and Volume Quota Enforcement
Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2
You can create folder and volume quotas to limit the amount of disk storage space that is allowed for a volume or folder and to generate notifications when the quota limits are approached or exceeded. There are two types of quotas: hard and soft quotas. A hard quota prevents users from saving files after the space limit is reached and generates notifications when the storage space reaches specified thresholds. A soft quota does not enforce the quota limit, but it generates notifications. Notifications include events logged to the event log and e-mails sent to users and administrators.
