Synchronize now
Applies To: Windows SBS 2008
By default, update synchronization is scheduled to run automatically at 1:00 A.M. daily. During synchronization, the Windows Server Update Services server retrieves the latest update definitions from the Microsoft Update site. After these update definitions are synchronized, each computer on the Windows SBS 2008 network conducts a compliance assessment to identify whether any new updates need to be applied. Missing updates are automatically offered if they meet the Windows SBS 2008 approval policy or are listed as optional updates in the Windows SBS Console.
In some cases, you might want to manually implement update synchronization. For example, perhaps a previously scheduled synchronization did not successfully complete or you become aware that new critical updates have been released since your last successful synchronization.
To manually run an update synchronization
Open the Windows SBS Console.
On the navigation bar, click Security, and then click Updates.
In the tasks pane, click Synchronize now, and then click OK.
Note
The synchronization can take several minutes to complete. If you want to continue using the Windows SBS Console while the synchronization completes, in the Software Updates dialog box, click Hide. Click Synch Now to reopen the dialog box.
