Repair Windows Server Backup

This section includes information about how to troubleshoot and manually repair Windows Server Backup on your server that is running Windows SBS 2008.

Problem   The performance settings for Windows Server Backup are not configured.

Solution   Configure the performance settings for Windows Server Backup.

To configure the performance settings for Windows Server Backup

  1. Click Start, and then click Server Manager.

  2. On the User Account Control page, click Continue.

  3. In the console tree, expand Storage, and then click Windows Server Backup.

  4. In the Actions pane, click Configure Performance Settings.

  5. In the Optimize Backup Performance dialog box, select the preferred level of backup performance, and then click OK.

Important

To help ensure optimal Backup performance, you should select Always perform incremental backup.

Problem   You cannot back up Windows SharePoint Services because Windows SharePoint Services backup and recovery is not configured.

Solution   Manually install Windows SharePoint Services Writer.

To install Windows SharePoint Services Writer

  1. Click Start, in the Search box type regedit, and then press ENTER.

  2. On the User Account Control page, click Continue.

  3. In Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\.

  4. If the WindowsServerBackup entry does not exist in the CurrentVersion subkey, create it as follows:

    1. Click CurrentVersion, on the Edit menu click New, and then click Key.

    2. Type WindowsServerBackup, and then press ENTER.

Note

If the WindowsServerBackup entry does exist, verify that the settings are correct or change them if necessary.

  1. If the Application Support entry does not exist in the WindowsServerBackup subkey, create it as follows:

    1. Click WindowsServerBackup, on the Edit menu click New, and then click Key.

    2. Type Application Support, and then press ENTER.

  2. If the {c2f52614-5e53-4858-a589-38eeb25c6184} entry does not exist in the Application Support subkey, create it as follows:

    1. Click Application Support, on the Edit menu click New, and then click Key.

    2. Type {c2f52614-5e53-4858-a589-38eeb25c6184}, and then press ENTER. This is the GUID for Windows SharePoint Services Writer.

  3. Right-click {c2f52614-5e53-4858-a589-38eeb25c6184}, click New, and then click String Value.

  4. In Value, type Application Identifier, and then press ENTER.

  5. Right-click Application Identifier, and then click Modify.

  6. In Value Data, type Windows SharePoint Services, and then click OK.

  7. On the Edit menu, click New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.

  8. Type UseSameVssContext, and then press ENTER.

  9. Right-click UseSameVssContext, and then click Modify.

  10. In Value Data, type 00000001, and then click OK.

Problem   Backup might not run if the server time zone settings are configured for (GMT +02:00) Jerusalem.

Solution   This is a rare occurrence for which a corrective update is available. If you encounter this issue, see the Microsoft Web site at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140154, or contact Microsoft Product Support.

Problem   Exchange Server 2007 backup and recovery cannot be configured.

Solution   Contact Microsoft Product Support to resolve this issue.
