How to: Send Feedback About Visual Studio

You can send feedback about Visual Studio to Microsoft in several ways, which include submitting bugs through the Microsoft Connect page of the Microsoft website and participating in the Visual Studio Customer Experience program.

Send Feedback and Report Bugs

You can provide specific feedback about a feature and report a possible bug in Visual Studio to Microsoft. To provide feedback in this way, you must have an active Internet connection and a Microsoft account. You can provide feedback by going to the Microsoft Connect website directly or by using the Visual Studio Feedback Tool add-in.

Important

If you download and install the Visual Studio Feedback Tool add-in, the Report a Bug command on the Help menu will be removed.

To submit feedback about Visual Studio directly from the Connect website

  1. On the menu bar, choose Help, Report a Bug.

  2. Choose the Submit Bug button, and then follow the directions for providing feedback.

To install and use the Visual Studio Feedback Tool

  1. On the Visual Studio Gallery website, open the Visual Studio Feedback Tool page.

  2. Choose the Download button, follow the instructions for installing the tool, and then restart Visual Studio.

  3. On the menu bar, choose Help, Provide Visual Studio Feedback to open the tool.

For more information about how to use the Visual Studio Feedback Tool, see the Microsoft Connect website.

Make a Product Suggestion

You can suggest a feature or enhancement to Visual Studio by using the Visual Studio UserVoice website. You can also vote on suggestions that other users have submitted.

To submit a product suggestion

  1. Visit the Visual Studio UserVoice web site.

  2. Follow the directions on the page for providing product suggestions.

Submit Your Usage Information

If you participate in the Visual Studio Customer Experience program, Microsoft tracks anonymous information about how you use Visual Studio and uses this information to improve the next version of the product. You are automatically prompted to participate in the Customer Experience program the first few times that you use Visual Studio. To participate, you must run Visual Studio with administrative privileges. Even if you decide not to participate at that time, you can start to participate later by completing the following steps.

Important

If Group Policy settings control your participation in the Customer Experience program, you might not be able to modify whether or not you participate in the program. Contact your system administrator if you have questions about your participation.

To participate in the Visual Studio Customer Experience program

  1. On the menu bar, choose Help, Customer Feedback Options.

  2. In the Customer Experience Improvement Program dialog box, choose the Yes, I am willing to participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program option button, and then choose the OK button.

You can stop participating in the Visual Studio Customer Experience program at any time by completing the following steps.

To stop participating in the Visual Studio Customer Experience program

  1. On the menu bar, choose Help, Customer Feedback Options.

  2. In the Customer Experience Improvement Program dialog box, choose the No, I would not like to participate option button, and then choose the OK button.
