I have a new computer (laptop) which came with Windows 2010.  I just installed Office 2016.  When trying to open Excel or any other program I get the error "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application.

One important note.  I had 2013 downloaded and working fine, than upgraded to 2016.  I have 64 bit processor.  Please help.  I am out of business and need these to work asap.

Thanks

Hi Bill,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

Right click on the Office application and then select Run as Administrator and verify the result.

If issue still persists try following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Let's check whether Office applications are running in **Compatible Mode.**If yes, disable the same and verify the result.

  1. Browse to the location C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 16\root\Office16 for Office 64 bit) or****C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 16\root\Office16 for Office 32 bit)

2)  Right click on Office application like Excel  and then click in Properties.

  1. In the Properties window click on Compatibility tab.
  2. Uncheck ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and then click on Apply and OK.

Method 2:

If issue still persists, repair the Office suite following instructions mentioned in the article below and see if it helps:

Wasted several hours trying to fix this, re-installed office twice, same problem. Given up with Skype.
