Hello,
If you reinstalled Windows on a new hard drive, it is uncommon for the license to be lost. For example, replacing an HDD with an SSD normally does not remove activation.
First, please confirm what type of Windows license you own:
- OEM license
- DSP license
- Retail license
When Windows is reinstalled on a new drive, activation can occur in the
following ways:
- OEM License An OEM license is tied to the motherboard. Even if you change the hard drive, Windows will activate automatically once the PC is connected to the internet.
- Digital License If your Microsoft account was previously linked to the digital license, sign in with the same Microsoft account and Windows should activate.
- Product Key If you have a retail Windows 10/11 product key, enter it again: Settings > System > Activation > Change product key
If activation still fails, please provide the exact error code shown under:
Settings > System > Activation
