Managing tabs, address bar, and search settings in Edge on older Windows versions
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
How do you disable the whole sidebar in version 149.0.4022.52?
I am being told by our internal IT department: "As per Microsoft, you can no longer disable the sidebar in Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 — because Microsoft removed the ability to turn it off in this version."
This change is having an impact on how I work as takes valuable screen space. Why can this setting not be made optional for users preference!
Managing tabs, address bar, and search settings in Edge on older Windows versions
Hi Vicky Davies,
The sidebar itself and Copilot are not being removed. What is being retired is the “sidebar app list” (also called the App Tower) that showed pinned mini‑apps.
On most recent Edge version 149.0.4022.69, Sidebar still can be toggled by navigating to Settings > Appearance > Sidebar.
If you have further questions, please feel free to let me know.
Hi,
The IT department probably misunderstood. There is no option to disable the sidebar because the sidebar will be completely removed in future versions. It is already gone from both of my machines.
In the meantime, try this if you have admin access on the PC.
In the Windows search,
Type cmd, right-click it, and choose Run as Administrator.
Run this command:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /v HubsSidebarEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.
