timeout, time out

One word, unhyphenated, as a noun or an adjective in computing contexts. Two words as a verb phrase.

In computing, a timeout is an event that interrupts a running process if some expected action or event doesn't occur within a predefined time.

Examples

Noun: After 30 seconds, a timeout occurs, and you must resubmit your query.

Adjective: If you receive a timeout error, try to sign in again.

Verb phrase: If there is no response within 30 seconds, the connection times out.
