Astronaut food (using domains)

More than 200 astronauts have been to the International Space Station. Most of them spend weeks or even months orbiting earth on the space station. You're interested in finding out details about their life in space, specifically: what kind of food do astronauts eat in a day? You decide to search the internet to find out!

Questions to think about:

  • What do astronauts eat in space?
  • How many times in a day do they eat?
  • How do they prepare the food?
  • How is space food different or similar to earth food?

Try it

  1. Open Search Coach.
  2. Type [astronaut food] in the search bar and run your search.
  3. Take note of the results you get. What kind of websites are they? How do you know?
    What might be the goal of different sites that come up? What type of site would give you the most reliable answers to your questions?
  4. Now, try adding a Domain filter to your search.
    Most astronauts work for the government. Select Domain, then select .gov to narrow your search to only results from government websites.
    What results do you get? How are they different from your previous search? Did you find useful resources for your questions?
