Introduction to advanced Group Policy troubleshooting
Group Policy inheritance can become complicated in complex environments because settings flow through sites, domains, and organizational units while interacting with enforcement, inheritance blocking, security filtering, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) filters, loopback processing, and conflicting policies. As the number of GPOs and administrative layers grows, determining which settings ultimately apply to a user or computer can become difficult, increasing the risk of unintended configurations and making troubleshooting more time-consuming.
In this module, you learn techniques for diagnosing and resolving advanced Group Policy issues. You learn how to determine why the expected state diverged from the observed state. By the end of the module, you're able to trace a setting from its link through the Group Policy Container, Group Policy Template, client-side extension, plus effective state. You can also distinguish Group Policy failure from replication, network, operating-system, security-control, or application failure.
