What is Agent in Settings?
Agent in Settings is a Windows feature that helps users find and change system settings using natural language. Instead of remembering the exact name of a setting or the path to a menu, users can type what they want to do—such as making text larger, adjusting brightness, or connecting a device—and the agent suggests the relevant setting.
Users can review the suggestion and choose whether to apply the change. This makes it faster and easier to personalize a device, connect accessories like Bluetooth devices or external displays, and adjust common system settings.
Agent in Settings also supports basic troubleshooting by recommending actions based on the user’s request. It interprets intent and maps it to available settings within Windows, helping users move from task to solution more efficiently.
The feature is powered by a lightweight, on-device language model that processes requests locally. It analyzes the user’s input and matches it to relevant settings. If the request can’t be confidently mapped to a specific setting, Windows returns standard search results so users can still find what they need.
In the next unit, you’ll learn how to use Agent in Settings to describe what you want in plain language and apply changes more quickly.
