Assignment
Application lifecycle management is an important part of a successful implementation. Most Dynamics 365 implementations use Microsoft Power Platform, so the ALM capabilities that are built into the platform help those projects establish a strong ALM practice.
Pipelines in Power Platform bring ALM automation and CI/CD capabilities into the service itself. Admins configure a pipeline once, and then makers deploy their solutions from development to test and production with a few clicks, without needing prior knowledge of ALM tooling. Pipelines can be combined with Git integration in Dataverse, which syncs unmanaged solutions with a Git provider such as Azure DevOps or GitHub, and pipelines can be extended to integrate with other CI/CD tools.
Review the following items to learn more about these capabilities and other ALM news and updates.
- Read Overview of pipelines in Power Platform to learn how in-product deployments work for admins, makers, and developers.
- Read Overview of Git integration in Power Platform to see how source control is enabled directly from the solutions experience.
- Read Extend pipelines in Power Platform to see how pipelines integrate with Azure DevOps, GitHub, and other providers.
Note
These articles are more technical than most of the assignments in the skilling program. Read them through the lens of someone new on a project that needs to understand the goals of ALM automation.
- The Power Platform blog has a category dedicated to ALM topics. You can review some of the posts at Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).
Note
The ALM Accelerator for Power Platform, a canvas app from the CoE Starter Kit that provided a simplified interface to Azure Pipelines and Git source control, is deprecated. No new features are being added to it. Use pipelines in Power Platform instead.
