Exercise - Configure web search and Copilot Search

With the settings catalog tuned, you continue preparing Relecloud's Copilot experience: setting the tenant-wide web-search policy that governs both Copilot and Copilot Chat, and getting Copilot Search to understand Relecloud's shorthand.

Important

Prerequisites for this exercise:

  • A Microsoft 365 tenant with Microsoft 365 Copilot provisioned.
  • Access to the Cloud Policy service for Microsoft 365 (Microsoft 365 Apps admin center) for Task 1.
  • AI Administrator access to the Copilot Search configuration for Task 2.

Task 1: Enable the unified web-search policy

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center at config.office.com with your Cloud Policy service access.
  2. Go to Customization > Policy Management, then select Create (or edit an existing policy configuration).
  3. Search for the Allow web search in Copilot setting, add it to your policy configuration, and set it to Enabled.
  4. Scope the policy to the appropriate group, review, and publish it.
  5. Confirm: this single policy governs both Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat together—there's no separate toggle for each. Enabling it here means both experiences can now pull from the web.
  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center at admin.microsoft.com, go to Copilot > Copilot Search (or Settings > Copilot Search depending on your tenant's navigation).
  2. Select Acronyms, then Add acronym.
  3. Define an internal Relecloud term—for example, map RAP to Relecloud Acceleration Program—and save.
  4. Have a test user search that acronym in Copilot Search and confirm the results now resolve to the correct internal program instead of returning nothing or an unrelated match.
  5. Reflect: this is ongoing curation, not a one-time setup step. As Relecloud's internal shorthand changes—new programs launch, old ones retire—the acronym list needs the same maintenance discipline as any other piece of tenant configuration.

You've now enabled the unified web-search policy governing both Copilot and Copilot Chat, and taught Copilot Search one piece of Relecloud's internal shorthand—two settings that directly shape what answers Copilot can actually give.
