Sales orders

Completed

You can create sales orders in the Sales or Supply Chain Management systems. When you create a sales order, it's automatically synced with Supply Chain Management in near real time. Similarly, if you create a sales order in Supply Chain Management, it's synced in real time with Sales.

  • In Dynamics 365 Sales, products that are entered manually will appear as product categories in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.

Discount calculation and rounding:

The discount calculation model in Sales differs from the discount calculation approach in Supply Chain Management.

In Supply Chain Management, the ultimate discount amount on a sales line might be the consequence of a mix of discount amounts and discount percentages. Rounding might occur if this final discount amount is divided by the quantity on the line. If a rounded per-unit discount value is synced to Sales, this rounding is ignored. To help ensure that the whole discount amount from a sales line in Supply Chain Management is effectively synchronized to Sales, the full value must be synced without being divided by the line quantity. As a result, you need to define the discount calculation technique as a Line item in Sales.

The whole line discount amount is used when a sales order line is synced from Sales to Supply Chain Management. Because no column exists in Supply Chain Management for recording the entire discount amount for a line, the value is split by the quantity and placed in the Line discount column. Any rounding that occurs during this division is recorded in the sales line's Sales charges column.

Example: Synchronization from Sales to Supply Chain Management

In this example scenario, you have the following sales order:

  • Quantity in Sales = 3, Per-line discount =10.00 U.S.Dollars (USD).

  • Quantity in Supply Chain Management = 3, Line discount amount = 3.33 USD, Sales charge = --0.01 USD.

If you sync from Supply Chain Management to Sales, you'll get the following result:

  • Quantity in Supply Chain Management = 3, Line discount amount = 3.33 USD, Sales charge = --0.01 USD.

  • Quantity in Sales = 3, Per-line discount = (3 × 3.33 USD) + 0.01 USD = 10.00 USD.
