Create a new non-inventory item

Completed

You can set up noninventory items for physical items that don't require tracking of inventory quantity and value. For example, a company that produces items may want to create a noninventory item for bolts they need in their production process.

Noninventory items support the following features:

  • Sales

  • Purchasing

  • Job consumption

  • Service consumption

  • Assembly consumption

  • Production consumption

The following features are not supported by non-inventory items:

  • Assembly output

  • Production output

  • Location transfer

  • Physical counting

  • Inventory revaluation

  • Inventory costing

  • Item tracking

  • Reservation

  • Warehousing

  • Planning

To create a noninventory item, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search for Page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter items, and select the related link.

  2. Select New.

  3. If you use item templates, select the template that is best suited to create noninventory items.

  4. In the Description field, enter the name of the item.

  5. In the Type field, select Non-Inventory.

  6. In the Base Unit of Measure field, select a unit of measure.

When you try to enter a field that is used for features that aren't supported for noninventory items, the program shows an error. Examples of such fields are Replenishment System, Reordering Policy and Item Tracking Code.
