Introduction
This module introduces the enhanced capabilities of combining Microsoft Power BI with Microsoft Power Automate Process Mining. It covers the essentials of how to bring your process mining data into Power BI for flexible and dynamic reporting. Power Automate Process Mining offers a powerful approach to uncovering the intricacies of your business processes, helping you identify bottlenecks and uncover opportunities for improvement. It's in the Power BI analysis and visualization where data truly transforms into actionable insights.
Reasons for using Power BI with Power Automate Process Mining
Power Automate Process Mining includes an embedded Power BI report with a detailed process map, prebuilt KPIs, filters, and visualizations to help you understand your process. However, this report isn't customizable or extendable, and it only includes data that's ingested through Power Automate Process Mining.
By connecting to your own Power BI premium workspace, you can use the higher capacity to analyze processes with a lot more data. Additionally, you can customize the appearance and behavior, bring more data sources, extend the data model, and create other reports. The following image shows an example of a custom report that's tailored to provide details on a specific settlement approval process.
The following image is another example of a compliance report. Review both reports. Notice that they present the data from the process mining analysis in a non-process mining way that typical business users could understand without needing to know process mining.
Customizing process mining reports is a powerful way to further analzye the data that process mining creates to provide valuable business information for your organization.
How to Use Power BI with Power Automate Process Mining
High level steps of using Power BI to extend Power Automate process mining reporting includes:
Set up a Power BI workspace with premium capacity.
Connect your process to the workspace and load your process analytics in Power BI.
Customize the data model and reports in the Power BI workspace.
