Power Platform convergence

Completed

Microsoft Power Platform integration removes the barriers to entry for customers to fully harness the Microsoft Power Platform stack with each of their finance and operations environments. Features such as dual-write become a one-click experience to set up. Add-ins are unlocked for an environment using Microsoft Power Platform integration. Virtual entities are also made available by default in the environment. Business events and create/update/delete (CUD) events in finance and operations apps are also integrated with Microsoft Dataverse.

Note

CUD events are only going to be available with Microsoft Power Platform integration.

When using a new experience on each environment in Lifecycle Services, a user can complete the first part of the Microsoft Power Platform integration setup. This will create an environment of the same type (production or sandbox) in the Power Platform admin center. This new environment will have the same name as the one in Lifecycle Services and will be powered by Microsoft Dataverse, and the finance and operations URL will be populated on this environment in the admin center.

When the setup is complete, dual-write setup will be enabled and customers who want to use dual-write can do this from Lifecycle Services. They can then select which entity maps to synchronize from the finance and operations app. Virtual entities are also installed in the environment with Microsoft Power Platform integration and it isn’t necessary to set up manual connections because the environments are preconnected.

With Microsoft Power Platform integration enabled, finance and operations users will be automatically added to Dataverse when users access virtual entities from Microsoft Power Apps.

Another benefit of the Microsoft Power Platform integration being enabled is that business events in finance and operations will converge with business events in Dataverse. Users who subscribe to finance and operations business events will receive that event from Dataverse. Also, it will enable the execution of C# plug-ins for Dataverse for finance and operations scenarios that are executed because of business events.

With the integration, CUD events are also available for finance and operations OData-enabled data entities. A CUD operation in a finance and operations app can happen via the finance and operations user interface, finance and operations OData APIs, or from Power Apps/Power Portal, using virtual entities. The CUD event will trigger the entity. Also, it enables the execution of C# plug-ins in Dataverse for finance and operations scenarios that are executed as a response to CUD events.

The Plugin Registration Tool will enable registering C# plug-ins business and CUD events coming from finance and operations apps. Developers can explore Dataverse environments and write, register, deploy, and debug C# plug-ins in Visual Studio, using a Visual Studio extension for Microsoft Power Platform. For developers, such as finance and operations developers, that are already working in Visual Studio, this provides one workspace (Visual Studio) to author their customizations across Dynamics 365 apps, in finance and operations apps, and Dataverse.
