Exercise - How to do ambient recording in Dragon Copilot

Ambient recording enables Dragon Copilot to listen during patient encounters and generate documentation automatically. This unit focuses on hands-on practice using ambient recording in a real-world workflow, including starting a recording, reviewing the transcript, and adding recordings within the same patient session.

Exercise 1 - Create a new ambient recording and add an introduction

Scenario

You're seeing an extra or unscheduled patient and need to start a recording in Dragon Copilot.

Practice

Sign in to Dragon Copilot and practice creating a patient session and an ambient recording. You can try the steps on your own or follow the guided instructions.

Practice on your own

1. Create a new patient session.
2. Start an ambient recording and include a brief introduction.
3. Stop the recording.

Guided practice

Follow these steps to create an ambient recording.

1. Select the Create patient session button to start a new patient session.
2. Select the Start ambient recording button to begin an ambient recording.
3. Introduce the visit with a brief statement providing context (for example, patient background or reason for visit). For practice, you can say:
   Patient is a 53-year-old female with a history of diabetes who has been experiencing fever, chills, a productive cough, shortness of breath, and a rapid heart rate.
4. Select the Start ambient recording button again to stop recording.

Exercise 2 - Review the transcript

Scenario

The patient encounter finishes, and the ambient recording is processed.

Practice

Go into the Dragon Copilot patient session you created in exercise 1. Follow the steps to practice on your own or get guidance to move through the exercise.

Practice on your own

1. Open the patient session.
2. Go to the transcript view.
3. Review the transcript to view and confirm details from the conversation.
4. Go back to the note view.

Guided practice

1. Open the patient session from the session list.
2. Select Transcript from the session tabs.
3. Return to Note to compare the transcript with the clinical summary.

Locate and review the transcript to verify details before finalizing documentation.

Add another recording to a session

Ambient recording isn't limited to a single recording. You can add recordings within the same patient session as the encounter continues or new information is discussed.

Exercise 3 - Add a recording

Scenario

After you stop the recording, the patient asks another question that requires documentation.

Practice

Stay in the same Dragon Copilot patient session. Follow the steps to practice on your own or use guided instructions.

Practice on your own

1. Add a new ambient recording to the existing patient session.
2. Capture the conversation.
3. Stop the recording and return to the session view.

Guided practice

1. Stay in the same patient session.
2. Select the Start ambient recording button to begin another ambient recording.
3. Add your information. For example, you can say:
   To recap, you were asking if you need to make any dietary changes due to your symptoms. At this time, continue to drink plenty of water and advance your food intake as tolerated.
4. Select the Start ambient recording button again to stop recording.

Start and stop ambient recording to add details to a patient session.
