You can dictate into different areas of the Dragon Copilot application, such as Memos or the Copilot chat box, depending on what you’re trying to accomplish. This unit has exercises for practicing dictation workflows and voice commands.

Use memos for focused dictation

Memos in Dragon Copilot are flexible workspaces where you can capture information that's separate from the AI-generated note. Memos are especially useful for jotting down thoughts, reminders, or information related to patient encounters that you plan to address later.

Exercise 1 - Create a memo

Scenario

You want to capture other details that shouldn't go directly into the clinical note.

Practice on your own

1. Open the Memos tab.
2. Create a new memo.
3. Use your voice to dictate a short entry.
4. Review the memo text for accuracy.

Guided practice

1. Open a patient session.
2. Select the Memos tab.
3. Select Add memo.
4. Dictate a memo. Place your cursor where text should appear, turn on the dictation microphone, and begin speaking. For example, you can say:
   Reminder to ask the patient about how their gardening is going.

Exercise 2 - Review and rename a memo

Scenario

You want to review a memo you created and rename it so it’s easy to find later.

Practice on your own

1. Open an existing patient session.
2. Open the Memos tab.
3. Review any existing memo content.
4. Rename the memo.

1. Open a patient session from the session list.
2. Select Memos from the session tabs.
3. Review existing memo content.
4. Select the icon and rename the memo to:

Exercise 3 - Use voice commands

Scenario

You're dictating and want to make changes without stopping to type.

Practice on your own

1. Dictate a short sentence.
2. Use a voice command to correct or navigate the text.
3. Confirm the command performs the expected action.

Guided practice

1. Add a new memo or continue with one you already have.
2. Place the cursor where you want the dictated text to go.
3. Turn on the dictation microphone and say,
   Patient and I discussed a diet plan. I need to use Copilot to create a vegetarian, high-protein diet plan and send it to the patient after the visit.
4. Use voice commands to navigate or edit the memo. For example, you can say:
   Insert after Copilot
   (pause)

3. Review the response.

1. Open a patient session and locate the Copilot chat box at the bottom of the screen.
2. Place your cursor in the chat box.
3. Turn on the dictation microphone and ask a question. For example, you can say:
   What are the side effects of guaifenesin for a patient with diabetes?
4. Select the arrow inside the chat box.
5. Review the generated response.
