Templates best practices

Completed

These best practices provide guidance on successful use of templates in Dragon Copilot (physicians). Templates can significantly improve clarity and efficiency in your note output. Follow these suggestions to create templates that meet your personal documentation needs:

  • Review your specialty selection in settings. This step ensures your AI output aligns with your patient population and documentation needs.

  • Determine whether you need a template. The default template or style settings might meet your needs. Select defaults in Settings > Library > Templates > Note.

  • Use the AI assistant to draft and refine templates. Describe the purpose, section, workflow, and preferred format, then use follow-up prompts to improve the result.

  • Preview with mock data before using. Check formatting, content placement, and structure to verify the template meets your style.

  • Choose the right template type. Templates apply only to the template type you assign them. Use a note section template for one note section, or a document template for a full note or separate document.

  • Create additional templates for different visit types, workflows, or documentation needs. After you create a template, you can duplicate and modify it for other scenarios.

  • Ensure instructions are clear, easy to understand, well-structured, and free from contradictions. This clarity helps the AI understand and follow them accurately.

  • Apply templates by using the dictation microphone, Dragon Copilot Chat, or the library icon. This approach gives you flexibility in how you use templates in your workflow.

  • Apply templates in the way that works best for your workflow. Apply templates automatically with Auto-Style, on demand with the library icon, a voice command, Dragon Copilot Chat or as part of a Dragon Copilot Workflow.

  • Update, refine, or expand templates as workflows change. You can easily edit templates in the library, so you can adjust them as needed to fit changes in your documentation needs or workflow.

By applying these best practices, you can build and use templates that produce well-structured and personalized documentation.
