Exercise - Create an HPI template in the Dragon Copilot library

Completed

You can create templates to suit your documentation needs and provide a framework for Dragon Copilot (physicians) to generate more personalized documentation. You can create multiple templates for each section to meet your workflow and documentation needs. Note section templates enable you to give Dragon Copilot (physicians) a framework to follow to create more personalized output. In this exercise, you create a custom HPI template.

Note

This unit applies to both Dragon Copilot and DAX Copilot. Available features and functionality might vary based on organizational configuration, language settings, and the platform being used.

Scenario

You want to document a structured HPI that differs from your default template and is tailored to a specific type of patient encounter. To save time and ensure consistency, you decide to create a secondary template specifically for this use case. You can build a template manually but you want the AI assistant to help you build the structure and refine as needed.

Build the template by following these steps:

Initial steps

  1. Open Dragon Copilot, if it isn't already running.
  2. Go to Settings > Templates.

Use the AI assistant to draft a new template

  1. Select New item at the top.
  2. In the AI assistant field, describe your template. If you have an example, add the content to the field. For example: "I want an HPI Template for follow-up visits that starts with an opening statement that includes the patient’s age, sex, reason for visit and if they were accompanied by someone. I then want the HPI to be organized based by problems with the problem name as the header followed by a summary of the relevant subjective problem details in concise bullet format. At the bottom, I want a social history section that includes all social history mentioned in the visit including hobbies, vacations, and school or work activities. Please remove this section if no social history is mentioned"

Note

You can either type or dictate in the AI assistant field. If you prefer, you can also select Create template manually to draft your template without AI assistance.

Review the AI-generated template and preview

  1. Review the Name, Spoken form, template type, and template. Ensure the template type is selected as History of Present Illness – Note Section.
  2. Review the generated preview using mock data.
  3. Modify the template manually or use the AI assistant in the lower right corner as needed to reflect your documentation and workflow preferences.
  4. Select Save.
  5. Use the template and refine as needed.
  6. Add your template to your style or as part of a workflow to run automatically. Apply your template on demand by using the library icon, Dragon Copilot Chat, or a voice command.

Templates in Dragon Copilot (physicians) are flexible. Adjust the content to match your documentation style and the needs of your practice. The AI assistant for templates supports you as you build, edit, and refine your templates. Use templates to streamline your workflow and documentation needs.
