Promote and coach first recordings
Help nursing staff feel confident by modeling a simple, successful first recording. Reinforce that consent, clear intent, and simple phrasing support safe and effective use from the start.
Important
Always confirm patient consent before recording, based on organizational policy.
Simple first recording flow
- Confirm consent and set expectations with the patient.
- Select Record (or confirm auto-start).
- Speak observations with context (units, location, laterality) to model care out loud.
- Pause if needed, check the transcript if necessary, then resume.
- Select Stop to complete the recording and send for review.
Reinforce that this same pattern works across shifts and scenarios.
Example consent language
"I'm using a tool that helps document this assessment so I can focus on you."
Encourage peers to say it in their own words.
Care out loud examples (keep it simple)
- "I'm checking your blood pressure and heart rate."
- "Vitals are stable - heart rate 78, oxygen saturation 98% on 2 liters."
- "Pain is 6 out of 10. I gave medication and will check back in 30 minutes."
Encourage peers to use one or two of these short recording scenarios during their first recording.
What to expect during recording
- A timer shows recording is active.
- Maximum recording time is 75 minutes.
- Pause and resume can handle interruptions (up to 60 minutes paused).
Reassure staff that they can pause and continue without restarting.
Coaching preview (keep it light)
Show Preview as a quick check, not extra work.
Common coaching scenarios
First recording (vitals or pain):
Focus on a small win to build confidence.- Keep it short.
- Use one care out loud example.
- Review together.
LDA documentation (type and location):
Reinforce that specificity improves accuracy. Examples:- "Foley catheter in place."
- "Wound on left forearm, distal."
Interrupted recording:
Reinforce that interruptions are normal and easy to manage.- Pause and handle the interruption.
- Check the transcript if needed.
- Resume or start a new recording if needed.
Tip
Model one simple recording, then guide a peer through it. Early success builds confidence and adoption.
