Develop a troubleshooting mindset
Effective troubleshooting starts with the right mindset. As a nurse champion, your role isn't to fix every problem. Instead, help your peers understand what's happening, stay confident, and take the next step while keeping patient care on track.
Start by understanding the situation
Ask a few focused questions to identify where things are off track:
- Where are you stuck - patient selection, recording, review, editing, or filing?
- Is this problem happening to one person or multiple members of the nursing staff?
- Is there a connectivity or offline problem?
- Was the recording paused or stopped?
- Is this an accuracy problem or something missing or not working?
Decide what to do next
Use this approach:
- If the nursing staff member can continue with a small fix, coach and move forward.
- If they can't continue (for example, can't record or select a patient), escalate.
- If the problem repeats across users or shifts, escalate with details.
Tip
Stay calm and focused. Ask one question at a time and guide the next step. This approach helps maintain confidence and keeps care moving forward.
