While configuration profiles enforce security settings, compliance policies verify that devices meet your organization's security baseline before granting access to corporate resources. When integrated with Microsoft Entra Conditional Access, compliance policies transform from simple status checks into powerful access control mechanisms that protect your data.

Example scenario
Consider a financial services organization that must prove regulatory compliance while minimizing helpdesk burden. IT deploys compliance policies that verify BitLocker encryption, OS currency, and endpoint risk scores from Microsoft Defender. When a device falls out of compliance, automated emails notify the user with remediation steps. Configuration profiles and PowerShell scripts fix common issues silently in the background.
