Add a tool so an agent powered by the GitHub Copilot harness can look up current information or take an authorized action in an enterprise system, then confirm in Preview that the intended tool runs with the right inputs and result.
Learning objectives
After completing this module, you can:
- Explain how enhanced orchestration selects tools and how names, descriptions, and agent instructions affect selection.
- Add and configure an existing connector tool, including its connection, available actions, and inputs.
- Choose between a connector, an MCP server, and a workflow for a given action requirement.
- Test tool use in Preview, diagnose routing, input, result, and connection problems in the activity trace, and identify tool-use cases to keep for repeatable evaluation.
Prerequisites
- Familiarity with agent concepts in Microsoft Copilot Studio, including agent instructions and the difference between knowledge sources and tools.
- Experience creating and testing an agent in Microsoft Copilot Studio.
- Basic understanding of connector actions and connections to enterprise services.
