Hybrid learning

Completed

Enable learning in physical, digital, and hybrid realms, seamlessly spanning formal and informal learning contexts across time, location, and learning media.

Every child needs and deserves a quality education. Across the globe, there’s growing recognition that education systems must improve and implement new approaches to learning to live up to this promise. To ensure the wellbeing and academic success of each learner, we must reimagine curricula, teaching and assessment practices, the role of educators and learners in the learning environment, and more.

"…going online was about more than remote instruction—it was about implementing solutions that would keep departments running smoothly and evolve with the changing needs of learners and staff. Even with all the incredible fast work, administrators and leaders acknowledge they're navigating uncharted territory, and there's more to be done to ensure all learners can participate." — Barbara Holzapfel, General Manager, Microsoft Education

The challenges highlighted during the disruption caused by the global pandemic put a glaring spotlight on what educators knew all along. According to the Education Reimagined Report, over the last decade, learner engagement plummeted. Their sense of hope declined. Almost one in every five learners doesn’t reach a basic minimum level of skills needed to function in today’s society (OECD). Further exacerbating these issues, many school systems haven't kept pace with technological advances nor provided for widespread access to digital tools.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, one in five learners didn’t have access to the internet or a device to support their learning during lockdown. This disruption revealed systems that were seriously unprepared to support all learners.

Schools around the world are embracing the advantages of hybrid learning. The need for remote learning tools has never been more urgent. To ease the transition to distance learning, Microsoft developed resources, training, and how-to guides. Tips from the team shares how to find pathways of action that deepen learning for learners and educators and engage each in new ways of learning for better outcomes.
